    Re: Starting out from scratch!!!

I would make deal with you local fish store to buy or give credit to you when you bring fish in, then have a ten gallon fry tank and may be 2 other 10 gallons so you can keep the male and females apart so they don't start matting. That what I would do with the guppies if you want to breed them.

how ever it might be better to go with the swords if you don't mind them being less color. they would breed less often and the fry grow slow so you most likely can find a home for them be for your tank is over ran.

P.S. the other two ten is to keep the Fry apart so your fry don't start breeding.

Yea but that a lot of fish, even for a guppy. to get that many you might need to get a fish room and have huge spawn tanks of 50+ gallons. If I remember right you get only able 20 babies from a full grow guppy.

now you see why they can over run the tank.

if your going to breed I would do a 2 male: 6-8 female rate.

yup. 2nd writer. HIGH female to male ratio prevents stress on the females. Will save ya a few deaths in the long run defin.

    Re: Starting out from scratch!!!

Guppies shouldn't cost more than $4...and that's for the fancy ones.
You can usually score them MUCH cheaper on craiglist.
Crush the flakefood into basically dust. Feed them that or hikari first bites...don't do petsmart's liquid stuff that comes in a tube and reads its for livebearers fry.
Alternate the parents food with some spirulina for healthy fish/fry.

OK for guppies they cost between $1-$2 I think, they could be more in some places.

as for food, fish flakes will do just fine, however when they are fry make sure you make it almost a powder.

and if you want to treat them get some brine shrimp eggs and hatch them, I'm think of set up a hatchery soon in order to treat my new guppies, however I want to do a simpler set up then I had. which mean I need a few supplies I don't have on hand.

    Re: Starting out from scratch!!!

would it in prove my fish greatly? or is brine Shrimp, flake food, and micro worm be enough.

Looking to getting vinegar eels too, but not until I get use to taking care of micro worms.

P.S. I have also seen that stuff as a powder, were could I get as a powder, because if I need it I will most likely like in a powder.

Not sure where you would get it in powder form?
I feed it to my fish intermit. (they get mixed foods).
It's not going to make it super fish (nor will anything on the market), but it will defin improve the health of the fish, thus improving the health of the offspring...in addition to their color.

    Re: Starting out from scratch!!!

THERE IS NO WAY AROUND A FILTER!!!

Ok may be there is but it a pain in the butt to do because you need to balance your fish with your plants, and it just so mush easier to get a simple filter that hang on the back of you tank.

or you can do a DIY filter.

Yes you can use it when making liquid fry food but you won't want to use that for adults.
