I would keep the stocking to a bare minimum before finding out what the filtration is. HOB vs Canister there can be a difference in stocking options. You got a while anyway since you need to cycle the new tank first

I agree, you should find two or three smaller hardy fish that you like and use those as the fish to cycle your tank, make sure that they are on the cheaper side cause you will prolly lose one or two during the cycle period.

Cycling is very hard on any fish I compare to having your body dipped in ammonia with your mouth and eyes open.

Congrats on cycling one tank with no losses, buy expensive fish if you would like!

That is pretty lucky. I cycled my first tank with 3 Zebra Danios and 2 Julii Cory cats (both were very inexpensive and hardy) and ended up with only the two corys surviving. You can buy expensive fish to start with, but you might not end up being so lucky this time, and there goes $$ down the toilet.

I've never lost fish while cycling a tank. I also keep a close eye on the water parameters, do frequent water changes and dose with Prime to detoxify any ammonia and nitrites though.

Fishy cycle BAD for fish, i would never advocate one, please reconsider and do a fishless cycle with this tank. Better yet move some of the media from a filter you are using now over to the new one to jump start it.

It is very bad for the fish if they get exposed to the ammonia.

Well, the extent of the ammonia exposure is important. Natural freshwater and saltwater environments both have a small amount of ammonia in their water.

Lakes, streams and rivers have 100% water change 100% of the time aquaria don't so ANY ammonia can possibly be detremental.
