I hear ya, Good routine water maint is def key to most of it. I run a uv on mine..but I have planted. Water stays really clear (well up to when the uv bulb was due to be replaced)...but within 48 hours it was back to it's normal glass like quality (like yours).

I wish that was the case here. Lol. Tanks are mine thing...the rest of the family are pretty much just admirers...although I can get the kids to assist with the python (turning spicket on and off, watching refill temp to make sure it doesn't vary one way or the other, and wrapping it up) Haha!

African Cichlids all rush to their cave when they feel threatened or vulnerable. Most of yours have no cave to rush to so they duke it out for the few caves there are. I agree with the others here to load your tank with rock work.

about a year ago we had the tank loaded with lots of rock work with all the caves and hiding places (we only had 5 fish then) and they wouldn't use them, they would hang out around the filters and the top half of tank. we went out and got 5 more smaller ones and when we put them they found and used the caves for about 6 months and then started hanging out with the bigger fish. my wife had made up the current arrangement and it's worked for a while now. beleive it not we've had little aggression from these guys so far. we're planning on getting a 75 or 90gal that way they'll be more room in the tank to work with and try againg with the rock work and make it more "natural" for them.
