    Suggestions?

I am making my five gallon Eclipse Hex5 tank into a betta heaven for Al and want to put some live plants in there. It won't be immediately due to fundage issues (no job ATM), but I want to get some ideas as to what kind of plants would be best in the tank. It has a low WPG by necessity since the highest wattage the hood can handle is 10watts. Something that is beginner-friendly, since I am a complete novice at all this, would be perfect. Also, what kind of arrangement would work best. Obviously, taller plants in the rear and all, but I read somewhere (can't remember where) that you should leave the center of the tank open for the betta to swim in...is that right? I have a sunken ship decoration that will be in the front (or can be in the middle of something very low-growing is suggested), so I have to plant around that. Thanks!!!

Java Moss and Java Fern are two very easy low light plants that would work.

:) You and your stargrass. In that 5 gallon tank I bet in a month it would be packed.

K...is it readily available on sites like aquariumplants.com? We don't have any specialized fish stores in my area and Petsmart/Petco's selection sucks big time, so I'll probably end up ordering off the internet.

Anubias is very easy and looks great. It will do fine in low light set ups

I agree with the above. Crypts will work well in this small setup.

anubias petite can go in the foreground, have your algae under control cause it anubias can grow really slow.

    Re: Suggestions?

Yes!!! 100% Agreed!!! If you have algae in your tank (Beard Algae in specific) it will grow like wildfire on the Anubias hurting your plant.... I had to almost scrap my Anubias plants from this! Luckily I had 2 new rhizomes growing out so I did throw out the 2 adult plants because is simply could not clean the plant! All algae is no good for these plants though... thought I would put my 2ยข in on that

I have successfully cleaned algae off a larger leafed variety of anubias with a tooth brush. Just FYI for next time you have that problem

    Re: Suggestions?

Cant do that with Red Beard Algae which is the one I was referring to. That is what I had (one of the 2 algaes)
