Well in the last 2 weeks I've been painting and cleaning the whole house. I stop the filtration and sealed the tanks in plastic everything lived but the shrimp and crayfish. Tested the water and parameter were all the same. No fish were affected. I'm wondering if having the filtration off for 6 hours could have lowered the O2 levels????? They are extremely heavily planted tanks so I thought it would be okay but every invert died within 6 hour of uncovering the tanks. 14 in total so I did something wrong. All the snails made it threw even.

It's likely from the chemicals in the air?

the plants should provided o2 in themselves I'd think.
the filter being off for that short time defin. didn't do it....something must have gotten into the tank is my only thought?

not just one tank but 3 tanks. every invert I had. Fish are still doing great and have done major waterchanges, 50% for 4 days 30% EOD for 6 days, now back to 25% 1x per week. So hopefully everything is cleared out.

The 1 cray was almost 4" long and big. No-one would even go near him let alone munch on him. I had a 10 gal with just shrimp and snails. all the snails are alive. It may just be they have different breathing organs than fish and are less tolerant.

or lead or another heavy metal in the air from the construction. Crustaceans are really sensitive to metals

Like Dawn said, the plants should provide enough oxygen for a good amount of time. I'd guess the air was still holding chemicals and they got into the tank.

That is what I think also seeing that it was all the inverts in 3 tanks. I think it was the paint because I used the same paint in both rooms the tanks were in. Cleaning supplies were different in the rooms.

I'd do a couple water changes on the tanks and if you use carbon replace that in a few days. If you don't use carbon try to add some for a few days.
