Wow, When I had mine I recall it being about every month or so (that I actually would witness eggs) on average....Maybe mine were laying them somewhere where I wasn't aware OTHER than the filter intake tube on the emperor 400?

They spawned today finally!!! Now to see if they can go without eating them again!

Cool! Have you tried removing the eggs and placing them elsewhere? Personally, I never went that route myself and figured just let nature take its course....but I've read where others have just to save the soon to be fry.

I have tried that.... actually I was going to post, the pair's clutch of eggs is rather small (100) and the female is getting attacked by the male. The male is tending the eggs and the female is hiding.

I made the decision this morning that I will be switching females when I get home this evening (or at least trying to). Half of the batch of eggs are sterile or fungused.

No never do.... no real need to.... the parents usually tend them. Something is wrong between this pair now. He is attacking her, they are eating eggs, etc... They must want a divorce :)

Usually with the parents tending, no meth blue I end up with a 95% hatch rate. With meth blue and no parents I get a 70% hatch rate.... so I do no meth blue and leave the eggs with the parents at least for a while. If I remove them I do it at day 2 with no meth blue and get a 90% hatch rate.

Those stats though are falling apart though with this pair. Also the current breeding female is about 1/2 the overall size of the other one! That means that the other female is capable of producing higher numbers of eggs. That was visible over the past few days when the lone female spawned on the tank wall with about 400 eggs and then the paired female spawned yesterday with around 100 eggs.

I think the mated female needs a break!

Defin. sounds like she deserves a break, maybe she has a headache?
Maybe the male just wants a homecooked meal?
    Lol!

Well, I switched them a few hours ago and the new female and the male seem to be pairing. There seems to be less bickering so far then there was with the other one.

Its always good to have a "backup" female on hand :)

:) Sounds like you have an overzealous male. Haha!
Glad to hear the new pairing is working out better. ;)

Well, these were together for a while in the show tank and they did eat the eggs then which is why I paired the other female with him.... hopefully that habit will be over though.... if not, I can always raise them myself (dont really WANT to)

    :)
I actually watched the video with the music for the first time and it was hilarious! (at least to me).... most of the time the fish are moving to the song :)
