    ATHERINIFORMS

    General:
Atherininforms, which include silversides and rainbowfish, are found in coastal waters worldwide.
In some regions, such as Australia and Madagascar, seperate families that are true freshwater fish have developed.
Among the Atheriniforms important to hobbyists are these families:
Bedotiidae (Madagascar rainbowfish), Melanotaeniidae (rainbowfish), Telmatherinidae (sailfin silversides or Celebes rainbowfish), and Pseudomugilidae (blue-eyes).

    Biology:
Almost all the species are schooling fish that consume small aquatic animals and live in streams and lakes.
The males may become territorial during mating season for short periods.
    No parental care.

Note>Rainbowfish display their most splendid colors in the morning sunshine.
