    BLACK NEON TETRA

Origins:Distribution restricted to Taquari river in the Mato Grosso region of Brazil.
    Size:2 in.
Diet:Eats both prepared foods and small livefoods.
    Water:Temperature 73-81F; soft (50-100 mg/l) and acidic (pH 6.5).
    Temperament:Thrives in a shoal.

In spite of its name, the species is not related to the Neon Tetra. Females tend to be slightly larger than males, with more rounded body shape. Breeding will be most likely if you transfer a number of these tetras as a shoal to a spawning tank, but make sure the water is softer than in the main aquarium. Livefoods will help to bring the fish into breeding condition. After the eggs haven been scattered among fine-leaved plants, the adult fish will need to be removed form the spawning tank.
