    BLACK RUBY BARB

Origins:Asia, found in sluggish streams in the mountains of Sri Lanka.
    Size: 2 & 1/2"
    Diet:Prepared foods and livefoods.
    Water:Temperature 72-79F;soft (50-100 mg/l) and acidic (pH 6.0).
    Temperament:Peaceful and social.

The male Black Ruby, is larger and more colorful than the silverly female. A tank for these barbs needs to be subdued lighting, to prevent the fish from becoming nervous, and it must also include retreats. In the wild, seasonal changes in the water temperature trigger breeding; raising the temperature in the tank to the upper end of the specified range will achieve the same result. Spawning is likely soon after sunrise.
