Rena may not be the best filter out there but the better buy, price wise.
A really good filter cheap when compare to the Fluval and the Eheim

That is what I was thinking of going with. Are there any users out here? I haven't heard bad things about them, but again I haven't heard GREAT things about them either.

I 've heard the xp4 has propeller issues down the road a bit , they use the same unit in all xp's and the 4 will usually breakdown 2-4 months . One size doesn't fit all in this case

I found changing the filter pad every 2 months and unit breakdown every 6 months helps avoid overloading propeller

Mine have been running almost a year and no issues what so ever.

I do monthly maint --> pulling the propeller cap thingy and making sure to wipe everything down with a toothbrush & filter brush thingy...wringing out the media and replacing the stuff that needs replaced (filter floss on top).
