2 of my 5 red jewels paired up, and made a mess!!... i went to vacuum this evening, and found 2 of the reddest and biggest jewels guarding an area of rock just off the edge... and a closer inspection brings me to see this.... The pics make a mockery of how red the jewels actually are.. they almost glow they are so beautiful.

the female with her eggs...lots bigger than the male...

after delving into some info on Jewels.... it seems like these 2 are Blood Red Jewels?? And the other 3 i have are regular jewels, they are much lighter in color, and have 3 spots, while these 2 are very much brighter red, and only have 2 spots.

    Can anyone verify this? :)

Yes that is what they are. The scientific name is Hemichromis lifalili. The red on this species is sweet.

Great looking red jewels. We have red and green jewels living in the canals here among the rocks.

The Green one's seem bigger and meaner . I prefer the red types like yours as love the colors.

Are they chasing other fish away?
