Do you know black calvus are hard to keep and grow extremely slow? At 4 years old they are still juvies. You cannot keep a group of calvus they will fight. Eartheaters may work but being bottom fish my irritate/attack the eel.

Sorry for double post! What about a very heavily planted tank (you will be doing a lot of replanting) with 2 large groups (50+ per group) of inexpensive tetras (they will occasionally be food so that's why I say cheap). A sand bottom is needed for fire eels due tor burying themselves. Gravel can cause injury to them. You can also put pvc under the sand as an underground den for them. Be sure your tank is completely covered as they are escape artist I found netting from the fabric store completely covering the top of the tank and tied down worked to keep my eels from hitting the floor.

I have 11 adult Black Calvus in a 55 and never see them fight. As long as they have rocks and crevises to go into they are fine. Also mine are 2 years old and breeding.

Wow your the first I've heard breeding at 2. What are your parameter of the 55 they are in. Could you do a thread on them I'd love to see it.

Rams, Gourami's, I would say the possibilities are endless.
