    umm..South American Cichlid Plants
1st they should be firmly established BEFORE adding the fish.
2nd not sure if these are South American, but they defin. should work!
    Straight Val (Vallisneria spiralis)
Plant the Val in clumps around the back and sides and some in between the driftwood
Pygmy Chain Sword (Echinodoras tenellus) . . Use the Chain Sword along the front - it will spread to create a "grass" effect.
Be sure to leave a opening in the front for feeding.

Caution:Vals are extremely sensitive to Flourish Excel and will basically turn to mush if your using it in the tank with them. (Trust me...I learned the hard way on the excel and certain plants)

My solution to that would be to plant them in a terra cotta planter (weight and protection around the roots).
Wal-mart has the small ones if you just want to do bunches here and there.
Can always wedge the planter into the substrate (hiding it) from your visual field.

swords get BIG and can quickly fill a tank.
Not really sure on cichlids and plants (I know Cabomba is supposed to be cichlid safe..and the purple grows super fast--trust me..had a tank full of it >>can see it in 90g by following signature link)
