Hi, Im new, and could use some advise

    now this i can rig up but im sure they must be cleaned, or they prolly get clogged up, or are they fine? How often, and how do you clean them?

    I clean mine once a week when I do my partials.
    To clean them you squeeze them out in your tank water BEFORE doing your partial (yes, it will make your water look kucky)...let it settle...then do you water change.

    this will preven the loss of beneficial bacteria.

    If your really worried about the tank getting nasty you can squeeze it once into the tank to keep some of the beneficial bacteria...then rinse them out really well elsewhere with just water>>add a drop of prime (or dechlorinator) to the sponge before replacing back to tank to remove chlorine....do your partial...and replace your sponge.

    Must not be using a bucket to do water changes. ;)

    If using a bucket, squeeze the sponge in the water that you removed from the tank.

    Also....you're not going to remove the BB by squeezing the sponge. ;)
