how do I properly clean/maintain my aquarium?

    Okay. Make sure it said it removed chloramine since you have city water. If it does, it will work.

    that will take care of the bleach i used to shouldnt it??

    Yes, it will. You'll just need to use about three times the recommended dosage and let it sit for a while to make sure it does remove all the chlorine.

    do i need to take any of the water out when i do that or just ad some more?

    I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

    After you fill the tank completely (all the way to the very top) and add 3x the amount of aqua safe suggested and let that sit for a bit, empty the whole tank.

    Add your rocks, decorations etc and fill it with the correct amount of water. Add the aqua safe suggested for your size tank and you're good to go. Hook up your filter and let everything settle.

    so now i have to empty it?? i already filled it and put rocks and etc. in it. this is why i never use bleach.

    Did you put the rocks in the tank then add the aqua safe ?

    ok.. i put the rocks in filled it half way with water then i added the aqua safe. so not i have to empty it and do it agian?? I put every thing in it too. heater and the filter.

    Personally I would empty it just to be safe. The problem is that the water doesn't circulate around the substrate so chlorine could be trapped in/under the rocks.

    What you might be able to do is just reach your hand in the tank and swish the substrate around as much as you can and add a bit more aqua safe.

    You just don't want to have any issues when you first add your fish :D

    it wouldnt cause so much problems but i have to carry it back to the kitchen. this gets heavy. grr. but i dont want to have a bunch of dead fish.

    it wouldnt be as bad but i have extra weight as it is. ugh. oh well i will take some of the water out before i carry it.

    Yes, please do. A few trips back and forth over risking hurting yourself & child is a much better idea.

    should i soak the gravel or lay it in the tub and spray it with the shower hose??

    You should be good if you just rinse the substrate.
