Yes I do 40% weekly and without missing, as it is the best way to ensure a 0ppm amonia level with all those large fish in there.

Of all my 7 tanks..I do 40% ..except my 90G sa/ca tank ...that takes a 75% wc weekly. as the fish are really big in there.

Well Guido..I run a syphon Python..so most of the work is done by that.

The 90G sa/ca tank contains the following:

1 12" Super red tiger oscar
    1 10" tiger oscar
    2 8.5" Green Severums
    1 7" Jack Dempsey
    1 9" Tinfoil barb
    3 8" Common plecos

SO................. as you can see there is athe potential for a great deal of waste. 75% water chance is a must as this is the only place that I can house them currently.

there is a great deal of culture in the Rena and the substrate now so the 75% wc is not really an issue. All those large fish in that tank, and I still at the very most get 2-5ppm amonia in that tank..on a bad week. otherwise it is at 0.

I have been doing this since 1970, so it seems to be a system that is quite effective.

    WOW! Nice tanks Angus.

What do you do with all of your fry once they are big enough? I hear some people trade them in for credit at LFS.

I know I am speaking on behalf of all of us here, show us your other 5 tanks! Haha.

And I also agree with Dawn, amazing water clarity.

I do 50% water changes a week on my 55 gallon discus tank. I do 25% on thursdays and another 25% on sundays.

Oh, and Jrow, who breeds africans that you know and do they have any yellow labs? I need a high quality female for the male I have. He is beautiful so I don't want to get one that has ripped fins or anything. Just a preference haha I love my lab and would like fry!

Well Folks..I just had to strip an obnoxious stubborn momma, and she released 30 fry.

Now I have on top of everything that I have found this month:

    5 red top hongi fry
    15 more Kenyi
    30 electric yellow Mbuna

This is in addition to all the other fry in the 50G grow out tank..

    Phew..getting busy here!

The guy works at Perfect Pets. He doesnt have a big variety of them but he had some fry... I went to Pet Smart in Short Pump last week and they had a lot of different AC's the looked great! Prices were awesome too! I paid 10 bucks for this fish which was kind of expensive but my LFS had ich in their cichlid tank so i'm a little reluctant to pick anything up there for a while...

Jrow ..I see one dead or lame cichlid in the tank..and I walk away..regardless if this is the one fish I have been looking for, for the last 100 years.

I do not risk my other fish with lfs issues.

Yeah, I dont either. I have too much invested in my tank to have one fish clear it out...
