    LABYRINTHFISH

    General:
The members of this African and Asian fish group, with its more than 100 species, are aquarium highlights.
    The anabantids include various families.
Paradise fish, giant gouramis, and bettas or fighting fish belong to the family Osphronemidae.
The kissing gourami is the only species in its family (Helostomatidae).
Finally, the bushfish belong to the family of climbing perches (Anabantidae).

    At Home in Various Biotopes

The labyrinthfish species (fighting fish, paradise fish), whose males build foam nests as the water surface, occur mainly in calm waters with an abundance of plants.
Other species (some fighting fish and the chocolate gourami) are indigenours to flowing water and are mouthbrooders.
Kissing gouramis and large bushfish provide no parental care.
