LFS Had Ich... Or Was It Velvet ?

    Well, it looks like the damsels I got from the LFS had ich. This evening I noticed they have the white spots all over their bodies.

    I've lowered the tank temp to 72 to try and slow it down. I'm going to have to try to find a good treatment tomorrow. Because I have live rock I can't use any copper treatments so I'm going to have to try some organic stuff, or alternative treatments.

    That sucks! Take the damsels back. Werent you going to do that anyway?

    Yeah. If I didn't have my blenny now I would return the damsels then leave the tank fishless for a bit to kill it off.

    i never had saltwater but shouldn't you treat it the same as a freshwater for ich? i don't use any chemicals or meds. for ich , i like to do it natural

    The heat treatment that I would use for freshwater ich doesn't work on saltwater ich. It's a different parasite.

    get a product called kick ich it's the best product i have ever used in my tank....it will clear it up in no time.... ;)

    Yeah I read about that last night. The only problem is going to be finding it at a store.

    well i know petco doesn't carry it....i don't know about petsmart....maybe you should start calling around and see if you find it....i highly recommend it!!!
    ussually damsels can shake it off because they're tough but if it spreads to your blenny he's screwed........if you can't find it at a store then you shouldorder through the net asap.....

    I only have 3 options for fish stores here. PetSmart, Pet Food Discounters, and Pet Forum. Pet Forum won't have it, I doubt PetSmart does so I'm going to try Pet Food Discounters. If they don't have that exact product I'll get something organic (assuming they have it) to hold me over until I can get it shipped to me.

    The damsels are really stressed from it. When I came down this morning on and turned on the lights they were all hiding. Even now they're sticking around the heater.

    organic stuff is not going to work....i tried that shit before and by the next day i had 3 fish dead.....try petsmart last time i was there i was surprised with what they had in stock....not like petco (boooooo)

    What's safe to use with my live rock though ? Is Kick Ich the only thing ?

    PetSmart.com doesn't have Kick Ich so I doubt the store does. I wonder if something else will work. I know I want to stay away from anything with copper and/or Malachite Green in it.

    yep, it's the only thing i found that's good for everything...otherwise your going to have to setup a qt. and treat the fish in there for about 1 month.

    can't do that you don't want to treat the main tank with anything that is harmful for any bacteria and inverts because you'll end up with complications in the long haul.....it never completely goes away it has to be done in a qt.

    Eh okay. I'm going to go get ready and run to two places and see what they have. I need to get something to try today if I can't find Kick Ich and have to order it.

    What organic treatment did you use that didn't work ? Shannon said she used Kordon Ich Attack and it worked for her.

    The damsels didn't eat this morning, the blenny ate like 6 brine shrimp.

    the one that didn't work for me was the kordon ich attack.... :)
    i guess you have some thinking to do.... :confused:

    the kordon ich attack worked wonderfully for me, didn't kill my hermits, lr, snails or my puffer! (puffers don't always do well with meds) it was the organic kind I used.
