    Hey,

Im looking for some power compact bulbs (65W, 22", 6700K-ish) for my newly aquired light fixture and was wondering if there is a place to get these at a reasonable price (I know thats asking a lot up here, but I thought I would ask, before spending more on shipping than the part!)

Also, I have 3 12000K bulbs and need to know if they are worth anything.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Looking for Lighting in Alaska

I think most of the forumers here are in the US and shipping would more than likely be expensive. I use 65w on my tank at 6700K and they are 21"...not 22" (sorry, I don't have any extras to spare).

The best I could do is recommend some online stores (even though your not wanting to go that route) and you'd have to see if they ship to ya!

Hey Dawn, Alaska is part of the US. [rofl]

Have you tried looking at Big Al's, Drs Foster and Smith, PetCo/PetSmart ? They all allow you to check shipping prices before finalizing your order. That will allow you to figure out who will be the cheapest.

Yeah, but most of those sites, after going through the checkout, say to call them for a quote, when shipping to Alaska. I have found that its best to ship to a friend and have them flat rate it to me. But for bulbs, I dont want to run the risk of them getting damaged.

And we do have a Petco here, but online prices do not represent store prices. And they had a less than desireable selection. Kind of sucks!

And yes alaska is part of the US, Its that island in the lower left hand corner of most US maps, right next to Hawaii! JK

keep in mind , the light we "see" is not the light plants "see" Generally plants like 5000k to 6700k. So while 10000k or 12000k seem bright to us, they are too much in the blue spectrum for plants.

Yeah, I remember when I came out to see your tanks we talked briefly about that. I bought a light fixtue that had the 12000K bulbs in it and I wanted to replace them with the 6700 range. But I also dont want to waste the 12000Ks that I have, so If you know anyone who can use them let me know. Ill donate them once I find the correct range to put in the fixture.
