as long as you make enough $ to cover them and have a roof over your head, food in your stomach, and clothes on your back..I say go for it.
As long as it makes you happy :)

Ya, I would think that would have a positive effect on enabling your expansion into saltwater!

Here's a few pointers that might help ya with stacking the rockwork!

Some Suggestion on the rockwork in no particular order:

    1) Place a sheet of lighting diffuser BENEATH the substrate to defer some of the weight off of the bottom of the tank (rockwork gets heavy fast).

    2) Use a Underwater Curing Aquarium Epoxy to "cement" the rockwork together

    3) Drill the rocks and use Extra Long Zip ties / PVC thin tube-rods to connect them together and add additional stability

    4) Decorate "openly" so water can flow between the nooks and crannies preventing the dreaded "Dead-spots"...Proper Circulation is key and remember that aquatics enjoy overhangs and caves (both of which help them to feel safe)...also note I don't suggest stacking rocks against the glass for the "dead-spot" reason.

    5) look at numerous pictures (online ie. google) to give you an idea of what you'd like to try to achieve

    6) Use the rockwork to your advantage (hiding equipment, but still allowing it to be accessed for routine maint).

ps. I wish I could remember where I've seen it, but somewhere online is this mounting kit that "holds" the rockwork together and affixes to the back wall of the tank.

awesome, i'll deff look into the rods and stuff, i also would love to make like caves and wholes and stuff. the only thing about stacking rock that i really knew about was placing the rock before the sand so that fish and what not that go down in the sand won't move/injure themselves, which in my case both the puffer and the wrasse are pretty much sand lovers so i'll need the security.

That's a lot to spend on a protein skimmer for such a small tank.

wow, that is a ton of money to tie into such a small tank!
<--is just realizing that the costs for running my larger one when I had it was about the same price as running a smaller one.
    *Ouch*!
