So i got three platies for my ten, to keep it cycled. Now one of them has popeye. Ive not found to much about this and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I have tried adding a little aquarium salt, to no avail.

Only three platies and two ottos in this tank.

Temp is 80, water changed weekly, at least three gallons.
    normal parameters.

You're probably going to have to treat him with Maracyn and Maracyn 2.

Yeah, they're expensive meds. The combo of the two will treat both gram negative and gram positive infections so I'd try to find 2 if the normal one doesn't seem to help.

Yea ill go to the fish store and get some this evening.

just try to buy this sorta stuff at petsmart, or petco. they seem to be somewhat cheaper then the strictly fish stores.

Still though, 9 bucks for 8 tabs. and thankfully they are in a ten gallon...or it could have gotten REALLY expensive

Popeye is a symptom of secondary bacterial infection, so the advice to give maracyn I and II are correct. One treats gram pos bacteria and the other treats gram neg bacteria. Since you don't know what bacteria it is, it is best to use both at the same time. There is also a med, and I forget the name, maybe maracide...that is actually a combo of both. I had success once using "trisulfa" drug that I got at the lfs.

theres no way thats the only reason.
i change the water weekly. its crystal clear.

or it had it before i got them, and it just showed itself once here.

The fish is really looking bad today, the other eye is starting to pop out.
and the eye that was already popped out is now starting to get cloudy.

Poor water conditions can cause it but it's not the only cause. It's just an infection where fluid builds up behind the eye, popping it out.

As I said, popeye is a secondary symptom of an underlying bacterial infection. Usually by the time the symptom (popeye) shows up, the infection is too far progressed to save the fish. Sorry for your loss

Yeah, it's hard to cure the fish by the time we see something wrong.
