None in specific... Honestly, half the time I get them, they are the cheap wal mart (tetra brand) heaters.

Personally I find the TITANIUM heaters work better over-all. I dont even remember the brand but my 300W titanium heater has been very good to me.

Believe it or not, I have a cruddy HOB heater that CANNOT be submerged. It is my favorite because the dial for heat keeps turning. There is no limit to how far I can turn it up. I dont know if it is broken or if it is how it was designed. Needless to say that 1 heater really could heat my whole tank. I prefer though to keep it down and let all 3 share the load.

I normally use the Stealth heaters and haven't had any issues.

You dont have them cranked up all the way all day though! I bet I could destroy even the best heaters in a year :)

I will be shocked if any of my heaters lasted a year. Speaking of which I think I am about to loose the heater in my 55.... I am so out of heaters now too! I am only running 1 heater in each breeding tank because I am so low. The 1 in the 30 is only a 100W too......

that's what I have in the sump right now...I figured I'd get a couple more of those to boost it up to 3. The discus I go with if I do are han's. Do they need some sort of peat filtration as well to create the blackwater?

No Hans Discus are a bit different than most.... they like PH 7. They also like a slightly higher GH and KH than the other Discus.

If you go with Hans Discus all others will not work. In other words, Hans Discus can ONLY be kept with Hans Discus... it is easier for most people to keep them because they are not as needy as some of the other types.

Wilds for example are VERY hard to keep because of there demands on the water parameters.

You dont need blackwater, nor do I advise it with Hans Discus! The blackwater will pull the PH down and soften the water... Hans Discus do NOT do well in those conditions! That is why my preference is to not keep Hans Discus. Never bought them and never will personally...

it sounds more like the type I'd want to start out with then, a little easier. It's also the type ned's carries and that's where I'll be getting them from. He's got a really nice selection of them.

They are really attractive colorful fish. I like the more natural looking Discus myself though... If I EVER get lucky enough to raise some F1 Heckels, I would grow them out and get rid of all the ones in my show tank to house a tank of Heckels. That wont happen most likely though so I am not thinking about re-homing my stock at this time... maybe one day!
