ps. stay away from the flake food...that stuff caused issues when I used it (too much nutrients..ie algae).

Go with frozen mysis and live foods!

yea, i don't really believe in feeding fish flake food, it seems to fake to me, and i was thinking about feeding forzen and live food would be super cool

can always do the diy method>>get a blender at the thrift store...frozen/live from the grocer...and blend it up to make your own frozen (icecube trays..etc for freezing the stuff in)

lol i think im obsessed with my tank, i keep on finding myself just staring at this rock filled tank. lol i never thought that i would be so awed at rock, but it's just so neat. lol i guess i'm going to get a lot worse once i get fish and coral in there, last night i found myself just sitting in front of it and stairing at it for like half an hour, during that time i think i have found a hitch hiker coral, not sure yet though

that totally sucks that you are alergic. Reef tanks are just so amazing to me, i guess its something new. And i think i also like them because i can never go scuba diving so i would never actually see what the bottom of the ocean looks like in person, i could snorkle, but i don't think it's quiet the same. But it's just so amazing how people can turn an ordinary fish tank into a miniature ocean

wow that tank would of had some amazing potential as a reef, but cost would have been crazy expensive, i think for me at this point of time a 46 is a perfect size

    nope, was a 55g
    seaclone 150 cheapo protein skimmer
    rena cal heater
    2 Emperor 400's
RedSea Wavemaker hooked up to 4 Maxi-Jets (1200's I think)
    mag-float for front glass cleaning
and if I recall the light fixture was a 260w compact fluor.
the shower rack (front right) was used for cheato
and glass canopies were used of course!

i have a marineland glass lid on mine, i'm hoping i can keep it on it the my skimmer will fit with it on, and my lighting will be able to shoot through the glass with no problem.

Question about the magfloat, i have one, and it seems like it has scratched the glass on my 20 gall, i want to use it on my 46 because i get a lot of sand build up *i think* on the glass and want to get it all off. I also noticed on the mag float that there is a rough and smooth side, which one goes in the tank? and maybe i have the mag float placed wrong and thats possibly why my tank is a little bit scratched

i doubt "it" scratched the glass..more than likely you took it too close to your substrate..got a piece/several pieces stuck in the velcro and that is what scratched your tank.

Never use it to get off sand...algae/detrius only..or you'll get..yep, you guessed it..scratches!

use something like a tom aquatic tool that has the attachments...I use the razor edge like one to get gsa off ...I just don't recommend using it near your seals.

ok, i'll have to check out the aquatic tool, especiall since the sand on the sides and back of the tank is pretty bad, can't see it when lights are off, but it looks really bad when lights are on
