I also live in the city...have tons of overpriced fish stores in my area and my local craigslist contains mostly arguements about moron flaggers and their website where a group of them have nothing better to do than flag ads for no apparent reason...so I don't even bother with it any more.

No such thing as fish meetings here...Oh how I wish we had them!! <Drools at the idea>

And I'm truly happy with the guy that I deal with...extremely healthy specimens and ships priority when the weathers clear so it doesn't cost an arm and a leg so to speak. Thanks for the advice though.

Dawn I have the same problem here in Richmond. No meetings that I know of at least and expensive LFS. I made a myspace for fishkeepers in my area to get to know each other, hoping it would turn into a fish club, but alas, only got 2 friend requests since I made it a week ago. Sigh.

I guess no luck here in Richmond.

I know I am a little late but NO PLECOS!!!!! No Bristlenoses, Rubberlipped, certainly not a common. Steven was 1000% correct that the plecos can suck on the slime coat!

Here is the ONLY "Pleco" I would put in the tank: Otocinclus Catfish - AKA - Ottos Get them in larger numbers as they are smaller but they make great algae eaters (about 8-10 for that 55)

Also let me know when you want to come by for those swords if you still want them.

Really Ryan? I've read where others have had success with the bristlenoses...I know the discus are slow movers and I think me and you had a brief discussion on this prior if I remember right (with the bba issue I think)?
I know those fish (discus) are heck of a expensive & I personally would be scared to put anything in with them knowing their price. Lol!

Yes Dawn... there are horror stories I have read of even your calmer and more herbavorious plecos..... On the flip side I have heard of even Common Plecos not going after Discus.... I would not risk it though!

    Ottos! Ottos! Ottos!!!!!

    okay, I guess its a 50 50 chance. Lol!
Those fish are expensive (reason why I don't want them)..wouldn't care if I lost a $5 dollar fish...but a $50 and I would be friggin freaking out!

$50!?!?! They are usually more than that! I have been lucky and that is the average price that I have paid..... Usually they average $70-$90 per fish.....

I never priced those (they sit in the higher up tanks normally..too short to see price tag on them) Haha!

Hey Ryan, thanks for the advice! I usually don't see my rubberlipped anywhere except for behind my filter outlet, but if I see him venturing out at anytime I will move him. I do have 1 oto and 1 corydoras in there, they should be fine though.

I got my 3 "50 cent piece" size for $8/each from a local breeder I've become friends with! He's been holding them for me since quarter sized but he still let me have the "quarter sized" price even though they've gotten bigger.

The issue with the Plecos usually comes at an older age. Younger ones are more apt to be herbivores and older ones become more omnivorous. It is then that they might think the protein in the slime coat would be good for them. Then again it may not happen....

    More Biotope pics

First is of 2 out of 3 of my emerald cory cats ((Brochis splendens) and my freshwater flounder. I know it's not amazon native but I liked him and once he gets a little bigger I am rehoming him to someone with a brackish tank.

Here are 2 of my discus hiding in some cabomba. If you notice from the earlier pics, it has grown quite a bit.

Will post more once I get some more tank mates or more plants.

Stock list as of now is:

1 Rubber Lipped Pleco (Chaestoma milesi)
3 Marlboro Red Discus (Symphysodon sp.)
6 Neon Tetra Jumbo (Paracheirodon innesi)
3 Emerald Green Cory Cat (Brochis splendens)
    1 Otocinclus Catfish( Otocinclus sp.)
    1 Freshwater Flounder (Achirus lineatus)

I'd like to find a Banjo catfish! And I will be adding some silver hatchetfish soon.

Watch those Neons under that heat.... Neons break down under that high of heat really easily. If you start loosing them, you know it is the heat doing it and you need to go to Cardinal Tetras or Glo Lites....

Just bought 2 new bulbs for the biotope. Instead of the standard "blue/purplish" viewing bulb that was in it, I replaced those with a 6500k daylight bulb with a CRI of 75 which is a lot closer to 100 than what I had been using.

I don't know if you guys can tell the difference but it is huge in person. It really makes the greens stand out and the neons really bright!

Speaking of neons, the heat will kill them? I had no idea of that! My tank stays at 82 degrees. Is that fatal? And where around here can I get cardinals then? Petsmart doesn't carry them and they're the closest to me

No... 82 is not fatal... 86-92 is though where I keep mine.... Cardinals are sold at Petsmart, if you order them Fin and Feather will get them for you...

They are more than Neons... A LOT more! 3.99 per fish

    OUCH! haha.

I'll admit, it hurts me to pay $1.99 for such a small fish let alone $3.99 :)

I must've over looked the cardinals at Petsmart. I go there enough to know their entire inventory but I guess I need to pay more attention.
