I came across this and wondered if anyone has heard of or used this?

Claims to be great for snails and invertebrates...supposed to help snails develop strong shells and grow quickly.

    Ingredients:

[*]1 jar carrot and pea baby food - 60 cents

[*]1 bunch turnip greens (if not available you can use mustard or collard greens...as these are also high in calcium) - $1.20

[*]handfull of baby carrots - about 50 cents

    [*]unflavored gelatin - $1.00

[*]500 - 600 mg calcium vitimans or multi vitamin WITHOUT phosphorus (Flintstone Vitamins are perfect for this)

    Process:

    1. Cut turnip greens and place in a bowl with water. Microwave until cooked (typically about 2 minutes). Transfer greens only into a blender and leave the water in the bowl for step 2.

    2. Add baby carrots to the bowl of "greens" water and microwave until cooked (typically about 3 minutes). Pour entire contents into blender with the greens that were added earlier from step 1.

    3. Cook/Heat the baby food for about 60 seconds and add this to the blender also.

    4. Crush vitamins into powder/dust and add into the blender with the above.

    5. Blend until liquified (If needed a very small amount of water can be added as necessary).

:D The mixture can be frozen into ziplocs or ice cube trays and thawed as needed.

I use a gel fish food recipe that very similar but with fish add

This recipe makes about 5 cups gel food.
    Ingredients

    5 cups drinking water
    7 packets unflavored gelatin
    1 adult multivitamin
    1 500 mg vitamin C
2 500 mg calcium carbonate supplement tabs
    1 tab Acidophilus (optimal)
    1 tsp paprika
6 tsp calcium bentonite clay (optimal)
    1 1/2 cup pumpkin
    1 cup kale
    1 1/2 cup mustard greens
    1 1/2 cup collard greens
    3/4 cup canned mackerel

Add 3.5 cups water to blender. Place the Acidophilus tab, the calcium, vitamin C and the multivitamin in to soak.

Blanch kale 1.5 cup of water. reserve water for dissolving the gel.

Add mackerel, paprika, clay and veggies to blender. Blend well.

    For sinking food
    Pour blended ingredients into bowl.
Dissolve gelatin in water used to blanch kale and bring to a boil to dissolve gelatin.
Add gelatin mixture to bowl and stir until well mixed
Pour into flat shallow container(s) to make a depth of 1/4".
tap container gently to remove any trapped air bubbles.

    For floating food:
Dissolve gelatin in water used to blanch kale and bring to a boil to dissolve gelatin.
Pour gelatin mixture into blender and blend until well mixed.
Pour into flat shallow container(s) to make a depth of 1/4".
    Refrigerate until set.

Cut into squares. I leave out a week's worth of gel in a plastic zipper bag and store in the refrigerator. The rest I freeze between layers of plastic wrap. When frozen, I store in the freezer in ziplock bags (each holding about a week of food).

good to know, I got tons of MTS that feed off whatever is in the tank, tossed one hikari algae wafer into the 52g and I think every snail in the tank came to feast on it, my regular flourite was white with emerging snail butts.

I am setting up some tanks just for snails and stumbled on this, great thread guys!
