My guess would be it came from the plants...have you put new plants in recently?

Then the plants would be my guess....they may have been really really small and you did not notice them on the plants.

LOL.....where there is one snail, there usually are always more. Just take them out as soon as you see them and you should be okay.

that is if you dont want them, they will help keep your tank clean and some fish eat them (free food)

a lot of times, snails will lay their eggs on plants, and from what I've heard, they are really hard to see. I agree with uncwnells, they can be a benefit to your tank, just as long as you don't end up with a snail infestation.

Leslie Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 7:37 pm my snails are gone.. i dont know where they went. I looked and didnt see them.

Anthony Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:15 pm They're small aren't they ? They could be between the gravel, under a leaf etc etc.

Leslie Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:17 pm they arnt that small. about the size of a pea. i looked at all the plants.

Anthony Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:24 pm Maybe your frog ate them.

Leslie Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:32 pm could it? it ia a small african dawf frog.

Anthony Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:32 pm If they can fit in his mouth, it's possible.

NoctuVide Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:42 pm my girlfriend use to have an african clawed frog (much bigger then the dwarf frogs) and by the time she put him in a new tank (which he ended up dieing in) he had eaten 2 danios, 2 guppys, and a couple baby mollys.

Leslie Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:45 pm
o i dont think they could have fit into his mouth. could they have went into the filter?

Anthony Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:48 pm If your filter can suck up a pea size snail then your intake hole is too big. I wouldn't think that happened to them. I bet they're still in there though, just hiding really well.

Leslie Posted: Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:59 pm ill just hope they are hiding very well. maybe they will come back out.

    Re: snails

From what I know, there isn't a specific size. Those are large enough to breed, if you have a male and female.

    Re: snails

You really can't, unless you see them breeding.

Water temp should be about 80. Apple snails are more active at higher temps. With the high temp and a lot of food (Which wouldn't be smart in a tank that contains fish). It doesn't take much to get snails to breed, when you have a male and female.

I keep my tank around 77F with plants, I can't tell you how to sex them..but I can tell you that even really small ones are capable of breeding. I have tons of babies, jrs., and etc in the tank--all the result of purchasing a single ivory and golden mystery snail.

Visit applesnail.net they have a wonderful article on sexing them. Although with the briggs it usually is easier to tell just by watching who is mounting who.

    Re: snails

If you have room to raise the snails, and I mean 75 to 100 of the babies just leave them there and in about 10 days they will start to look blueish-some people say they look moldy but I don't think so-when they are blue looking GENTLY touch them everday when they are soft you can gently release the babies by taking the clutch off the side and swishing it through the water. Congrats BTW!!!!
