i want to set up a quarentine tank in a ten gallon for my zigzag eel with tail rot. problem is i dont have an extra filter. so.... my options are:1. to take the filet off my other ten gallon, which has 20 baby shrimp and about 30 few day old guppies(not a large bioload), and is planted with a lot of fast grwoing plants and is a well established tank and leave them with out a filter for about 4-5 days. or 2. leave the eel in a ten gallon without the filter and treat him. or 3. or treat the whole 20 gallon tank my eel is in(i dont want to do this)
so my question is which do you think is the best option, do you think the shrimp and guppies will survive(ill probably do a water change halfway through, and i will put a bubble wall in there for circulation) cuz this is the one i am leaning towards. ive had my eel for almost a year and he has grown a lot and is my favorite so i will do what i gotta do but tell me whatchya think

i say option #1 because sick fishes with fin rot really need the clean water and if you do tons of water changes it should be fine for both tanks (and if you have lot of plants that helps also)

Well when treating sick fish you must have a filter on the tank to provide oxygen. Since the tank is planted it may be okay, I would at least add an air pump and do a small water change every few days.

i think i am just going to dose the whole tank. ive stringy poop from my pleco and ottos and chances are some of the other fish probably have somethin too. i really dont want to though cuz my eel is sensitive to medication he always hides for a couple days. gotta be done though he is chasing and biting his tail like a dog with fleas

If you have a way try to increase aeration in the tank that may help some. A simple airstone would be great.

i ended up treating the whole tank and it didnt really seem to help. tried a couple differnent things with no succes. however, i moved him to a larger tank with a smoother substrate and some hiding spots for him so he doesnt have to dig all the time. i think the reduced stress and some salt and cleanrer water did the trick because i think he got better. ill have to give him a good look tomorrow and ill try to get a pic.

jpeg, jpg, gif are best. BMPs are usually very large files.
