nah, I can't...I'm severely allergic to saltwater.
That's the reason I had to break down my 55 salt and sell it off.
I ended up in the hospital for a week over it and even had to come home on oxygen for a while. Was really bad. Was totally unaware that you could be allergic to such a severity.
First started with a red rash anywhere the water would touch my arms during routine maint....then I would get a lil tight in the chest everytime I was in my bedroom (since thats where my tank sat at the time)...I didn't even put two and two together...I was just thinking dang allergies are getting out of hand!
That's when they asked me if I had anything new...and i laughed jokingly and said...yeah, saltwater fish setup and the joke was at least I HAD one...cuz by the time I get out of here their won't be anything left!
And the pulmo specialist told me that he had another patient that he seen a few years back that did the same thing...had a major asthma blowout over the tank emitting the ?salt into the air...I didn't believe him...but after I got rid of the tank I feel great :)

Wow, I've never heard of that before. What exactly are you allergic to in the saltwater ?

Apparently its the salt additive? I know, I couldn't believe it either..Luckily it was figured out or else I would have had to pay out the butt for further testing. Basic allergy testing revealed that I was allergic to all kinds of stuff...lol. Apparently all kinds of grass, basically every tree known to man, dust mites, mildew, horse hair?, dander, dogs, cats, guinea pigs...haha!
And yeah, i got dogs...so you can tell I don't listen.
But then again, I've never had any problems with my dogs causing an asthmatic episode...hives (maybe, but that's only if I bath them) so basically I just sucker someone else into doing their baths.

wow...so do you live in a bubble? lol ..jk....
you know i used to get the same red rash when i first started my tank. i even had a like a burn from it but now it's like my arms got used to it....now i can stick my arm in there all day if want to and nothing....i guess i got immune to it.

    thank you!!!
it's great to be in the saltwater tank hobby.....just don't make it your job!!!
i enjoy my tank and enjoy taking care of it, but when something goes wrong all of a sudden and i have to bust my @$$ trying to fix it....it takes a toll out of me and i get too the point that i wonder why i even started.... then when everything is back to normal and i sit back, relax and look at it....i remember why....

:geek: I hear ya, the amount of work to a beautiful tank such as yours is unimagineable by most. When I had mine my family was shocked at how much went into it (some would even go as far to say most of my life was being sucked away by maintaining it). And I don't even wanna remember the days when S*it went wrong...I mean I musta used every swear word known to man...including making up some rather unique ones. But the payoff is Sooo worth it. Nothing more relaxing though than sitting next to an aquarium that is impeckably clean filled with unique specimens that you don't come across every day and knowing you created a habitat that is almost ..if not better...than their original habitat woulda been :p

:) :) , it's not about being poor, it's about my wife letting me spend the bill money.... :) :) :) .....jk. most of the corals came from a deal i picked up on cl, they were practically free!!! don't get me wrong though i did have to spend some money also. i think if you find a great deal just take the plunge....it's worth it at the end.
spock...i bet that puffer of yours would have a field day in my tank..... :)

yeah my friends have a diagnosis for ppl that see my tank for the first time......they call it ''fishtank syndrome''
one look and your hooked for hrs......lol.
it happens all the time......ppl come in, look at the tank, they comment saying that it's nice and then all of a sudden they take a seat on my couch and just stare  hardly blinking and hardly talking..... :)

it's changed alot since those days......now it's less rock and more corals....lol....they say to have at least 1.5 lbs per gallon of rock but i learned it's not always good.....leave space for corals to grow, you'll appreciate it in the long run.......and the fish like the space too
