What is the best way to keep the fry from being sucked into my filtering system?

A pre filter on the intake.

Yep Yep, 3rd the prefilter over the intake.
what type of filter do you have? You could do a diy, or store bought.

I've found that fluval edge prefilters work on the aqueon hobs.... and on the Rena Xp4's I use Lustar ATI Filter Max III Pre Filters over the intakes.

it is just a generic run of the mill filter.. i did go buy a tank divider that is a screen that is small enough to filter water through it. but not let the babys through.
as soon as i can i will post pics of the fry.. the fry are up swimming now
