    just fed the pigs, about to order a good api test kit from bigalsonline, i called petco and petsmart and its like $32 there, online it was 15.99 plus 8 shipping and handling so im going with that one.

    thats what it said, it tests ph high and norm range, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate........thats all i need, but i dont know if thats the ultimate master kit, im sure there are some that test hardness...etc, but yeah it was on sale, im ordering soon tonight

    your main ones for freshwater are Normal range ph, ammonia if your not cycled, nitrite & Nitrate..as far as the GH/KH I've tested for them maybe like once or twice after the tank was cycled to help give me a better idea of inhabitants (but the pH should do that in itself)!

    IF you have a planted tank then you may need the iron and phosphate test
    kits for dosing purposes (API doesn't make an iron test kit--seachem does though).

    ahh ok yeah, i mean yeah i think its obviosly important to water your waters perameters, make sure your fish arnt suffering, but sometimes i think that these things are overly obsessed about, as long as you do regular water changes, feed properly and watch your vitals, i think everything will be fine.

    As cruel as it may seem, ive seen people with 30+ gal tanks, just green and nasty, no filter, just airator and heater, only water added was when enough evaparated to look bad and a little water was added, as rough as this probably were on the fish, there oscars lived like 2 years is that, the other person had barbs, silver dollars and some kind of feather finned catfish thing, i can only imagine the horrible environments some fish are living in out there around the world, like at all the walmarts.........

    agreed, I like to have the test kits around for two reasons only:
    1) to make sure my tank is properly cycled from the getgo
    2) In case a problem arises since the test kits will pretty much give you your answer MOST of the time

    As for constantly testing...I don't do it unless somethings amiss

    Doing another WC on the big tank, it got really cloudy from the Carnivore food I got for the loaches, so I did a 50% change last night and will do another 25% today, it looks better just not as clear as I would like.

    with my 125g being slightly overastocked, i check parameters at least 3 times a week.
    had to straighten out tank decor in the 125, the o's had put one of their bushes up against one of the filter intake tubes.

    i am doing a 40% wc and moving some of my plants around..the roots are sticking up thru the gravel..aslo going plant shopping later

    Finally got some tank time today. Changed water in two 20s. Set up a new 10g. Did some trimming. Put the trimmings in the new 10 until ready to sell being that it is too late ship.

    Finished cleaning everything except the 1 xp4 and uv...have all the fish out and 90% of the water and 75% of the eco...Hopefully it will be completey empty by early morning so I can spray paint the back and then disinfect the tank.

    Hey, it's only been like 3 days since I started..I think that;s pretty darn good considering I did it all myself and have been teaching also! Lol.

    yea, but you don't have like 60 fish including microscopic fry!
    <--hates catching the darn fish!
    And your a guy, so by common logic that means you can lift more/carry more...making transfers faster.
    I'm petite...so It takes me multiples trips and buckets..plus it has to be done all neat like. Haha!
