Looking at all my Triops..... I hatched a few thousand this weekend, and it's an all out war zone. They'll eat each other till 1-5 remain. On top of the other food in the tank, they should grow exceedingly fast.

Drained the 20gL almost dry so I could reinforce the pc stand & run wires to the new desktop.

Hoping to find the energy to do the filters on both tanks tomorrow.

i finally had some time to work on the 125g (which sprung a leak early this year) and discovered that the back pain of glass is warrped. the tank is 15yrs + old and has no center supports so when filled with water the glass will flex/bow. the glass must be getting "tired" and weak from years of holding water. instead of resealing it and taking a chance of it leaking again or even worse, a complete blow out/glass burst we've decided to make it a home for our hampsters (5 calico females).

i found a tag on the bottom of the tank and it was made by All Glass Aquariums in January 1988, so the tank is almost 24 yrs old.

    water changes and filter maintenance.

very early (like 1am) I felt spunky and did filter maintenance on the 90g & 20gL.
Besides that I ended up cleaning the plastic plants in the 90g and doing a partial. Ran out of energy to do the 20g partial so that'll have to be later on today or maybe tomorrow.

wishing the assassin snails were cheaper for the 20gL.
Contemplating if I feel up to doing some partials (headache).
Checking where I'm at on my stock of frozen bloodworms.

Where are you getting them from? I know several places online that they are only around 2 bucks a piece.

local lfs, I didn't pay much for them (they're out of stock at last check)...it's just they are soo small that I only thing they are worth about .50cents imo.

And I've yet to see a decline in snail population! Ugh!

Assassins are funny, one day you will think there are none and the next your tank will be full of them. They hide out in the substrate until they are about the size that most buy the at. I do cold water changes on all my tanks and the one that has the breeding colony of assassins in it I will always see them coming out of the substrate after a water change. Patience is key when dealing with assassins ;)

Cleaned the 20gL Filter, Rearranged the plants some being the tank was soo overcrowded you couldn't see when the light was even on, netted as many snails out as possible and then performed a partial to siphon out the mulm that was stirred up when I rearranged the plants.

Pima-fix & Mela-fix added to the 90g, the 1 discus apparently came under attack or darted into something...always something with them I swear! Brush algae's coming back too gosh darnit...I completely understand why people who constantly battle this crap either try to ignore it and get used to looking at it or simply get out of the hobby because their is no real fix that actually works. Ugh!

BBA Is quite difficult to deal with, I have it in one of my tanks (which I blame on the tahitian moon sand) and have just gotten used to seeing it.

I can't blame the substrate because I have it in my 20gL and no brush algae in it.
For some reason over time it keeps rearing its ugly head in the 90g...when I bleached everything it kept it away for a while, but again eventually over time it came back.

I had it when I had pool filter sand and even had it when I had the natural gravel substrate so I highly doubt it's substrate related. I thought initially it was related to my water (city water treated with seachem prime, very low in ph- like 6.0 but steady)...but if that was the case then it would/should be in both tanks.

The only thing I can come up with is maybe it's lighting releated or waste related? (90g has t5ho which I even tried reducing in hours and even the time that the 2nd banks enabled to come on; whereas the 20gL just has the standard flourescent canopy). As for waste obviously the 90g has larger fish (discus) which produce more waste plus the warmer temperature (just under 84f) whereas the other tank is shrimp (smaller so less waste) and cool water (73'ish).

I soo wish I could just get used to seeing it, but the ugly "tufts" covering random places throughout the tank drive me nuts! Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll just disappear with the melafix/pimafix treatment (not treating the tank for brush, but abrasions to the 1 discus who either darted into something or mucked with one of the alphas)...well see [icon_e_confused.gif]

The substrate is the only thing that varies between my tanks which is why I blame it on that. It for sure is a pain in the sciatic nerve, there is no doubt about that.

I has mystery guppy fry =D
I'm thinking they are Tiger Endler x "blue" delta female. Might be really nifty looking.

Cory are also spawning. In cold water no less (heater went out).

So in short, I'm making the needed preparations for fry. If the cory eggs are still around in the morning I'll save them. If not, then lunch is served for the fish who find them.

Doing math for how heavy my current "dream" setup is. 9 ten gallon tanks, divided into two partitions. Prolly will make a post later about it.
