tore down the 10g again, cleaned tank, decor and filter. got some new sand to go in the 10g. going to start over from scratch with this tank and hopefully can get it right this time.

got the new sand for the 10g cleaned/rinsed. cleaned up the a/c 30 filter and got new media for it also. got the a/c 30 set up in the 55g for now to get it "seeded", then we'll probably get a couple feeder goldfish to cycle the 10g. once the tank gets cycled then the goldfish will go into our neighbors goldfish pond.
water changes and filter maintenance on other tanks.

what type/kind of sand did you end up going with buzz?

    >Just finished using my mag-float to "clean" the tank glass...fed the fish their evening snack of flakes...and now just admiring a clean tank (while it lasts) lol!

the best way i can describe it is it's like a course sand. as far as rinsing, it wasn't that bad at all, not a toss in and fill. it was way easier to rinse than the crayola sand was.

put the new sand and the decor in the 10g, also picked up a nice sized rock (type of tufa rock) from a LPS to put in the 10g also. put water in the tank, got the heater and air stone running. been conducting ph tests this week to make sure that the new rock dosen't make the ph rise too much. so far the ph has been steady at about 7.6, not bad seeing as our tap water is 7.2 - 7.4. if all goes well this week, by next weekend we'll be ready to start cycling this tank (filter for this tank is running on our 55g to help get it seeded).

Can't wait tosee Buzz's new tank photos once it's all cycled and stocked!

did another ph test on the 10g and it's still steady at 7.6, as far as stocking this tank, we're still trying to figure it out. thinking about some glofish (zebra danio), 1-2 of each color, some cobra guppies. for bottom feeders we're thinking about red cherry shrimp or corys.

keep an eye with the guppies and danios..read on a few other places where the danios nipped the guppies fancy fins believe it or not. being it's a small tank dwarf corys would work swell :)

we might just do the glofish in the 10g and change the 20h to a guppy tank and in order to that we'll have to rehome the female greshakei (had her for about 5yrs now) that's in there now.

switched the background to just a green plastic tablecloth (which was under the octopus fabric)...still looks too dark in the tank, but oh well...it'll have to do because I hated the look of it without a background at all.

Algae is just about all gone (think it was from dosing with Tetra Algae control)...just a tiny bit on the emperor 400 intake and overflow thingy. YaY!

got the 10g up and running. took the a/c 30 off the 55g and put it back on the 10g. instead of going out and getting a couple of feeder goldfish to finish the cycle, we decided to put a couple of our juvie red zebra (from our 55g).

well, we was only able to catch one of the red zebra (young adult about 3 inch) to put in the 10g for now. checked water for ammonia and got a reading of .50 ppm so i did a 50% water change and did a double dose of amquel plus. i looked the fish over very well and he seems to be doing very good. as a matter of fact, he's digging up the sand, he's got the back half of the tank almost bare bottom. he's piled up the sand on the front glass of the tank.

the 10g is just about cycled. ammonia is less than .25 ppm, can't test for nitrites (some how one of the solution bottles came up missing), nitrates are reading just a little lighter than 5 ppm.

Doing a 50% water change because the ammonia and the nitrate and nitrite is high

was hoping to have had the 10g cycled by now, but about 2 1/2 weeks ago we had a bad storm come thru (while we were at work) and lost the electric for just over 8 hours. no one was home to get the battery air pumps going and the ammonia in the 10g shot back up to 1.0 ppm. this morning before we started water changes, the ammonia level in the 10g was less than .25 but not quite 0 ppm and nitrates around 5 . not there yet but real close. wifey can't wait to go shopping for some new fish.
