We all have our quirks :) You could make a thread in the equipment section and get some ideas on this matter there.

you can add a ball valve to the outlet side of your sterilizer so you can regulate the flow comming out. something like this:

That looks very intriguing, and thanks for the link; on second thought, I am inclined to write to the company and see if it has specific recommendations. Sometimes one doesn't see the aquatic forest because of the trees!

found out this morning that a lfs is having a sale on some of their fish....so we went to just "look" at what they have....ended up getting 10 more fancy guppy. all we need to get now is about 6 cory catfish and the stock for the 55g will be complete.

My lfg never has sales. Gives me a fifty cent "discount" or so per fish and that's it. He still manages to stay crowded with customers all the time, I think more for his knowledge and advice than anything else.

I think that people will visit more if it is a knowledgeable staff even if they have to pay a little more. I know I would.

Finally have gotten my green water under control by cutting down on my lights from ten to six hours, per advice of my fg. as well as the number of times I had ferts. a week. Had been running my sterilizer non-stop except for during feeding. I decided to not run the sterilizer any more until needed again. Once again, my water is crystal-clear (for now!) and a joy to look at my tank. I am thinking of going to another fg further away from where I live just to look at what is there and maybe get some more plants. A lot cheaper but it is pure business with this much larger shop than my guy who kisses each of his fish good night! It's all a trade-off I guess.

A better way to ask is what am I doing today that is NOT tank-related! Anything that can go wrong has gone wrong today: It started with my realizing that the main surge-protecter power strip had blown so an emergency trip to Radio Shack to buy the most expensive one they had. Then, it was a matter of trying to manuever around my microwave cart (my tank is on the side of the kitchen sink) to find plugs, etc. After much grief, I wound up with two blown surge protectors and one mystery cord and transformer to something I don't use any more. Then, my filters backed up from my not having cleaned the media in awhile, and I wound up with gallons (think about half of the tank!) all over the kitchen floor! Towels all over the floor and I hope that is it. Hopefully, acrylic tanks don't leak!

Well, aparently they do, so says my fg so I have decided to get out of the hobby as I REALLY, REALLY can't take any more trauma like today brought again! I stripped down my tank, took in all the fish I could catch, including the plants, to my fg. I told him I know that I have a bunch of catfish (all dwarfs such as pandas, albino, bushy nose) that have buried themselves into the substrate that I will try and bring in later tomorrow if I can. I the meanwhile, I will post an ad on Craig's List to give away my equipment to someone (excluding the tank!) who has more energy to devote to this on-going task than I do!

Bye-bye, and good luck with your own fish and tanks!

It's two incidents (major) today and many, many others over the years. It has reached the point of expensive diminishing returns.

Thank you for all of the good advice you have given me over the years!

made a breeders box for one of our guppies (turns out that we didn't get all males after all), looks like she'll be giving birth in a week or so. that now means that our 10g qt will be converted to a fry/grow out tank with a divider so we can put the female in their too.
