    Water Changes on my 20 and 30... I didnt pull my back out again today so thats good...

    feeding, feeding, and more feedings for the 90g.
    and feeding the shrimp and endlers in the 10g!

    Loaded fish feeders and changed feeding cycle from every 4 hrs to once per day
    Getting ready for winter such as it is here in central Florida

    Feedings... gonna take some water samples to the LFS to get all parameters checked... I only have a few tests left (PH, KH and GH)

    I have trusted my Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates are good from water changes... we shall see...

    Just got my breeder tank tested for nitrates....

    60-70ppm.... that could be an issue why they have not spawned since going bare-bottom...

    I broke down and bought an API Nitrate kit... I tested myself all parameters on my 125 display... I find this FUNNY!!!
    I waterchange 20% every week or 2 now... and top off evaporation every 3-4 days...
    Nitrates (tested 2x) - 0ppm
    PH - 6.2
    KH - 1.5 dKH
    GH - 3 dGH

    Oh and I feed 2 LARGE feedings a day with my homemade mix.... :confused:

    I peat my filter and have the Algone bag (actually 2) in another... I guess its the plants balancing out this tank... time to test my 30 breeder myself and do a HEAVY WC!!!! (Im thinking... 70-80-90-100%.... time to lay the fishies down! :))

    I think they had a mis-read on my breeder tank... it has nitrates but only about 6-8ppm.... I couldnt imagine it at what they read it at... must have been a contaminate in their test...

    Nitrate test can be tricky. I would believe 6-8ppm nitrate not 60ppm.

    I was shocked to see 0ppm on my planted display tank.... Im still baffled over that considering because of me using peat moss in my filter, I dont do WC on this tank as much anymore as I dont want to throw the PH off....

    Well it means one of two things
    1)The tank is in better condition than you think
    2)The tank as lost it cycle (doubtful)

    I always used nitrate test to look for tends in water quality more that trying to figure out what color on that little card matched that tube. Im a big fan of LaMotte Test Kits because that's what we use at work, is it better that hobby grade test? Can't say that I checked AP test against the LaMotte and the test were about the same. The LaMotte Test is EZer to read IMHO

    Yeah... API is good... but hard to read... They skip too many colors... I dont like that aspect of reading PH...

    Honestly for a 125 the bioload is TINY! I have 6 discus, 3 tetras now and 2 cories... there is really no bioload and all those plants... so... to a degree it DOES make sense

    I can't stand the color game myself. Curious if there is a better tester kit. Might be more costly but for more accuracy...could be worth it.

    Worse than the colors the biggest issue I have they offer a light green for PH 6.4 and then yellow for PH 6.0.... So... if its yellow green... what is the PH? It kind of makes you guess....
