moved my 2 otos from my 10 gallon to my 38 gal in hopes that they will help with the brown algae.

Doing a big water change to get the meds out of my tank. The fungus stuff I used make the water neon green. I couldn't stand looking at it anymore. Going to drop a carbon bag into the filter as well. I think I'll stick to Pima/MelaFix from now on.

Just removed the rest of the floater plants. They didn't live very long.

What type of lighting you got? Those red root floaters actually need quite a bit of light.

4 T5's, for a total of 156 watts. What I was sent didn't actually arrive in the best condition though. [icon_e_confused.gif]

They also HATE water movement, they do best when there is NO water movement.

where'd ya get the plants from?? (I avoid the floaters because as HBIC stated they don't do well with filtration-ie water movement) and if you have surface disturbance and a filter their more than likely to end up all over/in your filter intake.

I scrapped the 20gL tank clean, pulled the sponge filter to clean it...and plan on doing the partial later on today.
Also got new fish...see the 90g thread for more about that though.

Without at least 2 wpg and high nutrients within the tank, as well as NO water movement red root floaters will not survive. Have you tried water lettuce?

Well, I have a couple leaves/roots that did survive and are doing well but I really think the problem was how they were packaged/shipped.

    Nope, I sure haven't.

This time of year isn't really a good time to be shipping, even with heat packs so I don't doubt you there. Try water lettuce it's pretty from above and the roots are really cool. I keep it in most of my tanks, remind me this spring and I will send you some to try.

(*)pulled the fish into a holding bucket and bleached the tank out (couldn't stand the little microworm type thingys and couldn't get rid of them despite trying numerous things)
(*)tossed the sponge filter since it had the little microworms (no way in *Bleep* I was touching those things) and currently utilizing the smaller version of it that I had running in the old 10g fry setup (probably will order a new big one if I can find it cheap enough, but for now the small one will work).
(*)cleaned the prefilter sponges on the aqueon's
    Tank is now Spotless! Yay!

    90g
(cleaned the inside glass, snipped the bad leaves from the swords, clipped the moneywort in 1/2 and replanted the clippings (it was starting to arch at the top of the water), vac. the substrate REALLY well, and obviously refilled with a dose of Prime and then nice clean water.

    >My extra 300w aqueon heater that I got off ebay arrived today, it was fogged up from being so cold out so I plan on letting it sit until at least tomorrow before I put it in the tank to check it to make sure it works.

Other than the above...simply admiring the inhabitants under the lunars (so pretty)!

    Stripping....
    Ophthalmotilapia ventralis (Chituta)
    Cyprichromis microlepidotus ( karlani )
    And a Victorian, Psammochromis riponianus

I moved some fry that were in 5g's to their new 40g growout, and the tanks are ready once again for the newborns.

scraping algae off the sides, think we are going to have to do a blackout period to get this under control.

Feeding stripping females, cleaning cleaning and more cleaning. I finish a water change then I move on to the next. I can only do so many a day because I use a 55 gallon Blue barrel. I have a 1/3 horse sump in the bottom an air stone anda heater. I fill the barrel add a dose of prime and let it sit over night. I have a hose attached to the sump that reaches all my tanks. Then when i do a water change all I have to do is attach the hose to the tank and flip a switch. When the water in the barrel is gone i am done with water changes for the night. It takes me one week to do all the tanks. That means when I finish I start over again. I have six more tanks to set up so no I have to come up with an 8th day.
