sounds like a mold fungus to me.

Can be seen on excess food that sits in the tank (think of stagnant food/liquids) and on corpses that have sat.

Also can be seen in warm water (excess food and corpses).

<--got it 1x when I had a 55g in my attic (got too hot and the water got milky looking and fish died...corpses had a white fuzzy covering on them)

    borrowed photos attached

Agreed with dawn.... again... the question is was the white stuff post-mortem or pre-mortem... that is the question.... it could have been something other than the white stuff causing the illness that killed the fish... probably was too.... IMO

what was your water temp (we've had some high temps in our area)...is thinking that you water spiked really high/fast and killed the fish...and after them sitting in "hot" water that they acquired the fungus.

Ich or Columnaris (velvet) but they both require the same treatment of Malachite Green/Formalin Mix

Good Malachite Green based! Good stuff then... that is the correct med! (sorry I hate copper)

Treatment should be 7-9 days with 50% water changes DAILY and redosing... heat should remain for the 7-9 days as well.

(an alternative to Malachite Green is aquarium salt) You can still add it if you notice any labored breathing in addition to the Malachite Green... Watch the breathing carefully and if any are labored... salt the tank in addition to the Malachite Green treatment (I cant remember the dosage of salt but it IS on this board somewhere) I did post the dosage a while back ago...
