What type of crab did you get? I'm guessing maybe either a red claw or fiddler if you got it from a pet store. Most all crabs have to come out of the water at some point. They cannot survive under water completely. There are a couple fully aquatic varieties but you won't find these in pet stores.

You can make a DIY enclave for them under the water if you wanted. One way or the other you will need to provide them with an area where they can come out of the water.

Well yikes! I just looked them up and they are fiddlers (or at least they look like it) but they have been ok for the last few days. I'm going to rearrange the tank right now! Thank you!!!!!!!

Today I added a couple new cichlids to my cichlid tank. Got these guys at Uncle Ned's. A male and Female Christmas Fulu, a Male Blue Neon Red fin hap (Sam told me and I also read on the net that they are very rare, probably going to pick up a female as well), and a Julidochromis regani (Julie). I'll try to get pics soon, though they don't have the coloration they will have when they are adults (especially the christmas fulu)

hey James, I thought about using cuttlebone for the snails in the past...does it alter your water chemistry in any way?

I have not seen any swings in the tanks that I currently have it in. The only thing that it should affect would be calcium. Now I have it in all but two tanks. They will get some too when I get them squared away.

okay, I was curious as to if they (cuttlebones) had any negative effects such as reading elevations/lowerings and clarity (clouding of the water).

Thanks for the info James, always glad to learn something new as I am hesitant to try "most" new things without hearing from someone else first.
