Quite the impressive stock of fish! I love ALL of them :D

Yes Leslie... they do require soft acidic water.... BUT Hans Discus require water with PH 7.2 and moderately hard water... If you got that type they will work in A LOT of peoples tanks!

Plus then there is the way to soften and acid up your water using Peat and Driftwood!

    Re: 125 Planted Disucs Tank

I will add an updated photo of this tank as it looks different now due to overgrown stargrass, more cabomba, Corkscrew Val, Amazon Swords growing up and of course the new Discus! The tank has changed considerably in the past few weeks!

I was too lazy to shoot a photo of the tank... also too busy watching the new fish for illnesses, that they were feeding and watching the social structure and how it changed....

Oh.... 1 other note... the addition of the Heckels added some extra pairing behavior with my existing stock! A Red Sunset seems to be trying to pair with a Heckel and 2 Heckels follow each other all around the tank!

There is some TRUE shoaling behavior now as well that I am not used to! They dont move in big groups but occasionally 3-4 will break away from that 1 half of the tank to roam the stargrass or the left side of the tank

Here we go... not one of my better photos but you can see the Discus own the whole tank now... also have more Cabomba in the middle of the tank and the Swords have grown up a lot!

Not really.... actually they are out a lot.... they do cruise the ENTIRE tank though... that picture was taken while they were roaming! Also they Heckels are a bit harder to see because of the color pattern they have....

    Re: 125 Planted Disucs Tank

I am going to have to post some new pictures of my tank! The plants have almost overgrown my tank..... All you see is green everywhere :)

    My plan is working!!!!

Also wanted to add links here to my livestock:
    10 Oto Catfish
    4 Corys (2 Blue and 2 Albino)
4 Cardinal Tetras (the beasts of the Cardinals)
    6 Wild Heckels
9 Other Discus that were tank raised

And an older video of my livestock, mostly Discus back before the Wild Heckels were added:
Click here to see the Video

Again I need to get some updated photos as most of these are pretty old photos of the fish. I also need to get a video up with the way the tank acts now as the social structure is SO different than before.

Yeah, they are now ALL OVER my tank.... in the Stargrass, in the Cabomba.... there are like 2-4 Discus guarding that Y shaped driftwood on the right side of the tank. No eggs there though... who knows though what they are up to.... I got tired of thinking they are pairing. I wont mention anything like that until I see eggs....

:) I'd think they'd be pairing even without seeing eggs

They might be.... But eggs would be proof of a pair :)

Thanks! Those pesky plants keep growing :) I got duckweed in it too but you cant really see it because it is in with the stargrass on the left of the tank.

duckweed....stuff grows like crazy lol I have it in my ten gallon. I'm also getting an algae problem in that tank (With all the plants I have in there I'd think algae wouldn't be able to grow)

    Re: 125 Planted Disucs Tank

I actually have not trimmed the stargrass in months.... I have been letting it grow to create that canopy.... its actually growing out of the tank now :) It took a while for it to do that but I have a few rows of leaves above the water line.

Its nice to have the plants growing like that now.... You can even see the chain swords now.... I only had about 5 plants of them before and now have about 15-25.... they are those low green plants up front.... also I have that Microsword a little to the left in the front of the tank.... I think I am going to move that here soon so the Chain Sword can grow out in the front and center.....

A few more months and you wont see substrate [dancing]
